Hello, readers! I’m super excited to finally be able to announce that I am the resident poet for Small Wonder, “a quarterly magazine for kids and their grownups.” My first collaboration—in their new fruit issue, fresh for summer—is now available! You can read four fruity poems within the magazine, plus an extra rhyme on the back cover!
Small Wonder is a fantastic magazine—with the bright, creative energy of Daniela Lee at the helm—based out of Vancouver, BC, with a mission to encourage a sense of wonder, play, and engagement with the world for both children and their adults. Each full-colour issue is filled with stories (often clever adaptations of fairy tales or folk tales!) as well as activities, crafts, book and creative app reviews, puzzles, fun facts, jokes, and—now—poems by yours truly! And some of the most magical things about Small Wonder are the illustrations that accompany all the fun text-based stuff, and this issue is no exception, with art by several different talented folk. When you look inside the fruit issue, you’ll notice that my poems are beautifully illustrated by Liz Clay… Bring on the giant watermelons and pears with little people eating them!
I’m pleased as punch to be a part of such a special magazine. I hope you visit the Small Wonder website to see where you can buy a copy of the magazine near you (there’s an ever-growing list of Small Wonder stockists); you can also order individual issues of the magazine online or treat yourself to an annual subscription! You can also like Small Wonder on Facebook for sneak-peaks about future issue themes and more, and follow them on Instagram and Twitter at @smallwondermag. I’m on Twitter, too: follow me at @ruthrhymes for my tweets about books, games, and ice cream!
I hope you all have a wonder-full summer with lots of creative fun… I’m going to get to work on writing some more fun poems for Small Wonder, No. 4. (Can you guess what the next theme will be? I’m excited!) I’m also going to be busy reading, drawing, painting, scrapbooking, spending time at the beach with my family, making silly faces for photos and–you guessed it–drinking delicious lemonade.
